As promised, the DIY instructions for Love's Cat Ear Hair Clips! I used this Tutorial as inspiration for my Cat Ear Hair Clips, but I did not follow their instructions precisely.
Lily & Frog Supplies:
2 felt colors; one for the main part of the ear and the other for the interior of the ear
Hot glue & glue gun
Hair clip
Black ribbon
Lily & Frog DIY Instructions:
Begin with creating the shape of the cat ear.
I want the felt ear to hide the whole hair clip. I drew the main ear template the same width of the clip, adding length under the clip which will hide the clip later. In my template, you can see where the ‘pincher pinch’ (yep, I made up a word for something and it probably isn’t called that, lol) is with the bend in my outline.
In this case, the black felt is the main part of the cat ear. Fold the black felt in half, placing the bottom edge of the ear template onto the fold.
Create the template for the interior part of the ear. This template should be slighting narrower than the main ear template and the base should land at the hair clip line, not the bottom of the main template. Place the interior ear template on the interior ear felt, we used white, cut it out. I would recommend using a ‘sticky’ felt. It is easier to cut small pieces of the felt and saves you a step in hot gluing it onto the main ear felt. Place the white interior ear felt onto the main ear felt, sticky side down.
Time to hide the clip in the felt. rom this picture you can see the ‘pincher pinch’ sticking out. By cutting a tiny square into the center and off to the side of the main ear felt, the clip can be placed ALL the way into the main ear felt and hidden away.
To hide the hair clip a little more, wrap it in black ribbon (this is what I do for all of our hair clips).
Clip the hair clip centered on the black felt. Place a thin bead of hot glue along the TOP portion of the hair clip. Fold over and pinch together the two sides of the black felt along the clip. Glue together the rest of the black felt. Peel off the backing of the white felt, placing it on the ear, trimming the white felt if needed
For a little more girly touch, I added leopard print hair bows to the clips… The bow is positioned along the lowest portion of the felt ear giving it a little more character and flair!
